Volunteer Your Time
YES relies on dozens of volunteers who generously donate their time, love, and care to help make our work possible. Whether they’re accompanying youth on trips, guiding families through Family Camp, checking guests in at fundraising events, or any of other task, big or small, our volunteers are integral and cherished members of the YES team.
Ways You Can Volunteer
Volunteer With Our Programs
From weekend-long Family Camps to local day outings in Richmond and nearby parks, and beyond, there are many ways to support our work.
As a youth-serving organization, all volunteers and staff are required to complete the California Mandated Reporter Training on child abuse and neglect identification and reporting.
If you’re interested in supporting overnight activities, you’ll also need to complete a background check.

Volunteer At Special Events
YES hosts several events each year, and has a reputation for putting on a fun and memorable time for guests and volunteers alike! There are roles for a variety of interests and physical abilities. Greet guests, haul supplies, help with decorations, or serve up locally sourced meals and drinks - you’ll make a big difference, and some new friends, too!
Volunteer In Our Office
Administrative support is needed seasonally, particularly in the spring and early winter. We are happy to welcome your help with projects such as preparation for mailings, office tasks, and preparation for events. If you’ve got a special skill such as social media savvy, Salesforce experience, fabulous handwriting, or graphic design, please let us know!
2025 Annual Volunteer Celebration in Alvarado Park
“I found YES at a time when I was looking for fulfilling organizations to regularly volunteer with. I love the energy, mix of activities, the kids we work with, and the community feel brought by the YES staff. I left that Camp Day saying ‘I need more of this in my life’… I think it is an amazing way to build relationships with community members.
All the kids, teens, adults, and staff I have worked with have been so kind, warm, and have shared little bits of their stories with me. I get to learn from Richmond youth about what makes them “them” and I get to share a bit of myself and how I love the outdoors and think it is an important part of youth development and leadership building.”
